The former longtime owners of a Deadwood hardware store have awarded nearly $12,000 this year to community organizations and people in need.
The James E. Shea and Lillian E. Shea Trust awarded $11,600 in all to the Lord's Cupboard Food Bank and the Twin City Clothing Center and 10 Lawrence County residents with medical problems.
The Sheas long served the community as volunteers in civic and church organizations. He also served as mayor and president of the chamber of commerce. He died in 2007 and she continues their legacy of charitable giving with the Shea Trust Board of Administrators: Mary Kopco, Shirley Bergen, Aileen Brunner, Gina Ferris and Larry Shama.
