The third annual Backpacks for Kids program resulted in numerous boxes of food, $200 in cash and backpacks for the Rapid City Food Bank.

The employees of the Pennington County Sheriff's Office, Rapid City Police Department, Emergency Services Communication Center and the county State's Attorney's office contributed to the collection throughout September, organizer Melissa Stetson said. She and others delivered the items for low-income children Wednesday.

Last year's effort helped 415 students in seven schools. This year the program has grown to 16 schools in four counties.
