Rapid City schools stay about even

Student numbers on par with last fall

RAPID CITY - The Rapid City School District had 13,115 students in classrooms when official enrollment counts were taken Friday, Sept. 28.

Enrollment is on par with one year ago, when the district reported 13,113 students.

Elementary school enrollment is up slightly with 6,100 students in contrast to 6,000 in 2006.

Enrollment in the district's five middle schools dipped from 3,038 to 2,954.

Central High School reported 2,207 students, in contrast to Stevens High School with 1,517 students. An additional 332 high school students are enrolled in alternative programs, bringing the district's total high school numbers to 4,056.
