Authorities are investigating the death Friday of at Sturgis man at Newell Lake.

Brian Hallock, 55, was found in the north end of the lake near his boat, Butte County Sheriff Fred Lamphere said.

Hallock had launched his boat from the south end of the lake.

His wife, Diane Hallock, called the sheriff's office when he didn't return from fishing.

Lamphere said foul play was not suspected. Hallock's obituary, which is on Page B2, said he died in a boating accident, but Lamphere said there would be an autopsy this week to determine the cause of death.
