Firefighters quickly contained three fires in the Black Hills over the Labor Day weekend, according to a release from the Northern Great Plains Interagency Joint Information Center.
The lightning-caused French Creek Fire south of Hermosa, about seven miles east of Fairburn, burned less than half an acre of grass and cottonwood trees Sunday afternoon.
The Sheepherder Fire seven miles northwest of Hot Springs, also caused by lightning, burned an about an acre.
The Silica Fire (no location given) was caused by a campfire left unattended, but a helicopter and two wildfire engines contained it to a tenth of an acre.
Hot weather over the long weekend kept the fire danger high in the Black Hills, the agency said.
