A Meade County man was found alive - and amused - late Monday night in Rapid City. The hours-long manhunt found the Summerset man unaware that he was considered missing.
Earlier Monday, the Meade County sheriff's office had asked the public for help in finding Daniel Luke Orth, 26, who was reported missing since last being seen Saturday afternoon.
Deputy Victor Gust said he received a phone call Monday night from a citizen who had heard the announcement and recognized Orth's truck parked on East St. Patrick Street. Officers from the Pennington County Sheriff's office confirmed it was Orth's four-wheeler.
In the midst of those calls, Gust said he received phone calls from Orth's sister and mother saying that Orth was OK. His friends had heard the missing-person bulletin and had informed him that his family was looking for him, Gust said.
For no reason, Orth simply had not contacted in his family since Saturday, Gust said.
"He was just unaware that he was missing," Gust said. "He wasn't injured, lost or stranded."
