The Rapid City Police Department made numerous arrests for driving under the influence late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, including two arrests of the same person.

Rapid City police arrested 22-year-old Angel Lacroix of Hermosa at 1:48 a.m. Sunday morning and again at 5:19 a.m., according to Lt. James Johns of the Rapid City Police Department.

Lacroix was initially arrested at the intersection of Milwaukee and Van Buren streets, accused of driving under the influence, having an open container in a motor vehicle and a loud exhaust, Johns said.

Police saw Lacroix driving again later in the morning, recognized her from the first stop, pulled her over and arrested her again with driving under the influence.

Johns said a total of 21 people were arrested on charges of driving under the influence, to include five arrests for second and third offenses.

He said there doesn't seem to be any reason why so many arrests occurred Saturday.

"I think it was just some officers that were out there paying attention to what was going on and going the extra mile to find these drunk drivers," Johns said.

The Rapid City police will be stepping up law enforcement over the next two weekends as prom season approaches, Johns said. He said Saturday's effort was coordinated with the Pennington County Sheriff's Office.

In 2007, there were no alcohol-related fatal crashes in Rapid City, but there were 97 alcohol-related crashes, 43 of which resulted in injuries.
