An On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina is set to be built in northwest Rapid City.

The Tex-Mex restaurant is planned south of Menards on East North Street just south of Interstate 90 at Exit 60, according to Marcia Elkins, director of the city's growth management department.

A site plan for the area has been filed with the city and includes an On The Border location on one of three proposed restaurant sites. Century Development of Rapid City is developing the location; company officials did not return several Journal calls seeking comment. No opening date has been announced.

On The Border features chicken, grilled steak and seafood dishes, along with a selection of fajitas and margaritas.

The Rapid City restaurant would be the first of its kind in the state. New On The Border restaurants are set to open in Florida, California, Nevada, Oregon and Wyoming before the year ends.

On The Border is one of several restaurant brands owned by Brinker International. A media representative from Brinker did not return a call for comment.

According to the company's most recent quarterly report, there are 167 On the Border restaurants in the U.S., Canada and several international locations.

The company has 1,872 restaurants, including Chili's Grill & Bar, Romano's Macaroni Grill and Maggiano's Little Italy franchises.

The restaurant was founded in 1984 and is headquartered in Dallas, Texas.
