Rapid City Central High School's Team One took third place Saturday at the 15th annual South Dakota Regional Science Bowl at the Huron Event Center.

Team members were Jeffrey Lang, Ben Redinius, Mike Krsnak, Josh Smith and Dillion Dell. Their coach is Michael Slaback.

Thirty-two teams of science and math students from 25 South Dakota high schools competed. Many spent months preparing for what is the regional competition of the United States Department of Energy's National Science Bowl. Competition is in a fast-paced, question-and-answer format similar to the "Jeopardy!" game show. The students answered questions in all science disciplines including biology, chemistry, earth science, physics and astronomy and math.

Aberdeen Central High School's Team One took first place. Brookings High School placed second. Vermillion High School placed fourth.

The Aberdeen team earned the opportunity to compete May 1-6 at the National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C.
