SIOUX FALLS - One of South Dakota's death row inmates was originally scheduled for execution this week, but it's on hold because of his appeal to the state Supreme Court.
Briley Piper of Anchorage, Alaska, hopes to get his death sentence overturned.
He and Elijah Page of Athens, Texas, pleaded guilty to the 2000 torture murder of Chester Poage of Spearfish and a judge sentenced them to death.
Darrell Hoadley of Lead went to trial and was sentenced to life in prison.
Page ended his appeals and was executed in 2007.
Piper asked a judge to resentence him to life in prison, but that request was denied so now his case is back on appeal.
The other men on South Dakota's death row are Donald Moeller and Charles Rhines.
