Relatives have identified the victim of Saturday's car-pedestrian accident as longtime Rapid City resident John Eugene Langenfeld.
The 85-year-old man was walking to church when he was struck and killed after 5 p.m. Saturday at the Fifth and Oakland streets intersection. The accident occurred near the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, police said.
Langenfeld, a Watertown native, operated the family's ice cream business, expanding it to Rapid City in 1959. After it closed, he was involved in investment sales and service industries, retiring in 1991.
