RAPID CITY - An Eagle Butte man will spend 15 years in federal prison for murdering his wife.
Jamie Kevin Roach, 42, admitted to strangling 44-year-old Debbie Roach and cutting her throat Sept.5 at Eagle Butte. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.
U.S. District Judge Charles Kornmann sentenced Roach earlier this week. Roach was also ordered to spend five years on supervised release after his prison term and pay $1,700 in restitution.
In other federal court news:
* John E. Brave Bird, 33, Mission, was sentenced by Judge Kornmann to 20 years in prison and five years of supervised release for sexually abusing a Parmelee woman in 2005. He was originally indicted on four counts of aggravated sexual abuse and sexual abuse, and he later pleaded guilty to one count of sexual abuse.
* George Richard, 21, Pine Ridge, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Karen Schreier to 10 years in prison for conspiracy to distribute cocaine. He was one of more than 25 people charged in connection with a cocaine-distribution ring on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation between 2002 and 2006. He was also ordered to spend five years on supervised release after his release from prison.
* Danielle Spotted Eagle, 28, Kyle, pleaded guilty to larceny. Federal court documents show she admitted to stealing $3,430.74 from Lil Angel's Convenience Store in Kyle, where she was employed. The theft happened over a period of months, between April 2005 and January 2006. The maximum penalty is five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. No sentencing date was set. Jury trials are pending for two co-defendants, Duane Spotted Eagle and Robin Two Crow.
* Quantavious Riley, 23, and Bruce O'Cull, 34, both of Mobridge, have both pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute marijuana. According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, the charges relate to a conspiracy to distribute marijuana from Jan. 4, 2006, and Dec. 14, 2006. The maximum penalty is five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Riley was detained, and O'Cull was released on bond pending sentencing Oct. 1.
* Lori A. Little Bear, 37, Mission, pleaded guilty to a charge of involuntary manslaughter in connection with a Feb. 6 drunken-driving accident that killed a Todd County woman, Colleen Oliver, also known as Colleen Stone. The maximum penalty is six years in prison and a $250,000 fine. She was detained pending sentencing Aug. 24.
* Jonny White Bull, 30, Mobridge, pleaded guilty to distribution of a controlled substance in connection with distribution of marijuana Feb. 26 in Walworth County. The maximum penalty is five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He was released on bond pending sentencing Oct. 1.
* Robert Two Dogs, no age listed, Chadron, Neb., pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol with a minor present. Two Dogs admitted to drinking and driving Nov. 23 with a 15-year-old in the car. He was originally charged with tampering with a witness, but that charge was later changed. The maximum sentence is two years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing will be Aug. 27.
Taureen Plume, no age listed, Rapid City, pleaded not guilty to a charge of sexual abuse of a minor. According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, Plume is accused of having sexual relations with a girl younger than 16 near Porcupine on Jan. 11. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. No trial date has been set.
