A longtime South Dakota supporter of legalized marijuana has pleaded guilty to possession of it.
Bob Newland of Hermosa was in a Rapid City courtroom Monday on charges the drugs were found in March in his car after a routine traffic stop for speeding.
Newland pleaded guilty to possessing more than 2 ounces of marijuana but less than one-half pound. As part of a plea agreement, the state agreed to drop a more serious charge of possession with intent to distribute.
Newland is scheduled to be sentenced July 6.
