The "Don't Thump Your Melon" campaign in Rapid City to protect children from head injuries will receive a $19,550 donation on Saturday, when more free helmets will be distributed.

The Kohl's department store, 737 Disk Drive, sponsors special sales and gives proceeds to the helmet safety project, sponsored by Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Store officials will present the donation at 10 a.m. Saturday, then trainers will help children with correct fitting of helmets, instructions on use and how to protect themselves, and give helmets to children who need them until 1 p.m.

Don't Thump Your Melon presenters also visit Rapid City schools to encourage children to wear a helmet when biking, skating, or riding a scooter.

For information about the training and the helmets, call program coordinator Sheila Klosterman at 719-5843.
