DEADWOOD - A Lawrence County grand jury member was taken to the hospital Thursday by ambulance after a medical emergency at the Lawrence County Courthouse.
According to Deputy State's Attorney Amber Richey, a Spearfish police officer, a Lead police officer and members of the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office rushed to the aid of a man with a medical emergency about 1:20 p.m. in the grand jury room.
A grand jury of Lawrence County citizens assembles on selected Thursdays during the year to consider evidence to bring criminal indictments. The grand jury for the fall term had just been seated earlier in the day, but jurors were not hearing evidence and were not deliberating any cases at the time, Richey said.
Richey said the man, whom she did not identify, was taken to Lead-Deadwood Regional Hospital and was later transferred to Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Fellow jurors chose to continue with their work Thursday afternoon after the ambulance had left the scene, Richey said.
