All of the Black Hills National Forest's reservable campsites are booked for the Fourth of July weekend, making them unavailable from Thursday to Saturday night, according to a news release from the Forest Service.

But there are a number of campsites still available.

More than 125 first-come-first-served campsites will still be available to those who did not make a reservation. Campers are encouraged to arrive at campgrounds on Wednesday or early Thursday for the best opportunity to obtain one of these nonreservable sites.

Because of the holiday weekend, campground hosts will do their best to accommodate as many people as possible, but fire rings may not be available at all spots.

"If no more space is possible at a campground, travelers should ask the campground host, and they may be able to offer assistance," Ty Garcia, operations manager for Forest Recreation Management, said in a news release.

Other camping options include state and private campgrounds or dispersed camping. Dispersed campers may set up in areas open to dispersed camping in the Black Hills National Forest but must be at least 100 feet away from roads, trails and water.

Travelers cannot spend the night at day-use areas such as trailheads, picnic areas and boating sites. The only campground that is closed for the summer season is Dutchman.

Campfires are not allowed anywhere in the national forest except in fire rings at developed recreation sites. Pets must be leashed in the campgrounds.

The Black Hills National Forest reminds travelers that ATVs may only be used on a campground to enter or exit by the most direct route. Because of recent wet conditions, travelers should stay on designated roads.

Go to www.recreation.gov for campground reservation information or www.fs.fed.us/r2/blackhills/recreation/camping/index.shtml for a listing of all our campgrounds.
