Try explaining this to your insurance company: Rapid City Police were called Sunday night after reports that a vehicle had run into a brick building.
They found a 1993 Nissan Pathfinder almost completely embedded in the north wall of the building at 1107 Mount Rushmore Road.
The accident happened about 8:30 p.m. Police say the driver, 25-year-old Jacob Edward of Rapid City, was speeding south on Mount Rushmore Road when his vehicle veered off the road, struck the curb and landed head-on into the building.
Lt. James Johns of the Rapid City Police Department said witnesses at the scene reported Edward was driving well over the 35 mph speed limit.
The building Edward struck, at the corner of Fulton and Mount Rushmore Road, is next to Willy's Saw Shop and formerly housed Alternative Health Care. Johns said damage to the building was estimated at $6,000.
Edward was not injured in the crash. A passenger, Josh Kushmann, 26, Rapid City, was taken to Rapid City Regional Hospital by ambulance after complaining of back pain. He was treated and released.
Edward was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving. The accident remains under investigation.
