A group that supported a bill to make state government set up a Web site that would provide information on state salaries, state contracts and spending in various programs says Gov. Mike Rounds' veto was expected.
But Duane Sand, state director of Americans for Prosperity of South Dakota, says Rounds' reasoning is based on "phony cost projections."
Sand says Alaska managed to put its spending on the Internet in less than three weeks, using college interns and state employees.
He says his group wonders if there's something in South Dakota's state spending records that the taxpayers don't deserve to see.
Rounds said the bill had too many flaws.
