ELK POINT - The Dakota City, Nebraska, man convicted of
killing a man he met at an adult book store in Sioux City, Iowa,
has been sentenced to mandatory life in prison.
A jury in Elk Point found 39-year-old James Strahl guilty of
grand theft and first-degree murder for the May 1998 slaying of
52-year-old William O'Hare at his Beresford farm house.
The case went to trial after the state's Cold Case unit
reopened the investigation and new DNA technology led to Strahl's
arrest.
Prosecutors said Strahl had sex with O'Hare for money, then
killed him with a hammer when he refused to give Strahl a ride
home.
O'Hare's body was found about three weeks later.
