A 12-year-old girl hit by a car near Dakota Middle School at about 3:20 p.m. Tuesday suffered minor injuries and was treated at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

According to the Rapid City Police Department, the girl was crossing Fifth Street from east to west at Columbus Street when she was hit by a northbound 1999 Dodge Intrepid driven by Mary Allington, 26, of Rapid City. Allington made an evasive maneuver but was unable to avoid hitting the girl.

Allington was not injured and was cited for driving under revocation. No further charges were expected. Police believe the girl did not use the stop light's pedestrian crossing button before attempting to cross the street.
