SIOUX FALLS - An Aberdeen girl who progressed into the fifth
round of the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., was
eliminated Thursday.
Thirty-three spellers advanced to the sixth round, but Rebecca
Rehberger misspelled the botanical term "siphonogamous."
The semifinals continued Thursday, with the winner set to be
crowned Thursday night.
The afternoon semifinals were televised for the 14th year by
ESPN, with the finals to air on ABC in prime time for the second
consecutive year.
Rehberger who correctly spelled "geostationary" and "orenda"
in previous rounds, just finished the eighth grade at Trinity
Lutheran School.
