The Rapid City Arts Council would like to give you the chance to own a home for only $100.
In one of the more ambitious fundraising efforts undertaken on behalf of the Dahl Arts Center, the "Sweet Home Dakota" raffle will provide one lucky winner with a new home in the Copperfield Vistas development.
A maximum of 5,000 tickets will be sold for $100 each for the chance to win the home at 701 Copperfield Drive, which includes a finished basement, attached garage and major appliances.
"This is a sweet South Dakota home," said Linda Anderson, executive director of the Rapid City Arts Council. "It is perfect for a couple, family or as investment property."
House raffles have become increasingly popular over the past five years, but this is the first to be conducted in the Black Hills area by a local nonprofit, according to the arts council.
"This new house raffle is an enormous undertaking," said assistant director Darla Drew Lerdal. "We have been working on it since February. There are legal, financial, economic and ethical standards that have to be met in doing a raffle of this stature. We researched other nonprofits in other states that have done this type of fundraising successfully for many years. This is a bold fundraising strategy. We are proud, excited and a little nervous."
The raffle will officially launch at noon today at the house in Copperfield Vistas, and potential raffle ticket buyers are encouraged to come out this weekend from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. to tour the house and ask questions about the raffle.
The tentative raffle draw date is Dec. 19, and tickets will be sale until Dec. 11 or until all tickets are sold. Tickets can be purchased online at www.sweethomedakota.com or at the Dahl Arts Center. The drawing could be held sooner if all tickets sell out early. Ticket holders need not be present to win.
