Thanks to a citizen's tip, Rapid City police late Thursday located the suspected driver and vehicle suspected in Monday's hit-and-run accident involving a 12-year-old middle-schooler.

Authorities this week called for public help in finding the suspect, then offered $1,000 from the Community Reward Fund. That apparently worked.

"We certainly appreciate everybody looking," Sgt. Rich Fox said after 10 p.m. Thursday. "You can tell people they can quit looking."

He said a tip identified the suspect, who was not in custody. Fox said he expected additional information would be made public today.

A Dakota Middle School student improperly crossing Fifth Street while on her way to school with her sister was struck and knocked out about 7:40 a.m. Monday by a northbound vehicle. An adult helped the sister pull the girl from traffic.

The girl was treated at Rapid City Regional Hospital and released and was last reported in good condition at home.
