SIOUX FALLS - Republican Sen. John Thune says his campaign committee has almost $4.4 million in cash on hand.

The figure was contained in a Federal Election Commission campaign finance filing that was due Wednesday. It covers January through the end of March.

The committee, Friends of John Thune, raised $880,687 in the first quarter of this year.

In a release, Thune says almost 3,000 South Dakotans have contributed to his 2010 re-election campaign. Thune has yet to make a formal candidacy announcement.
