More than 50 people turned out Tuesday night for the first of three "Dinner and a Movie" fundraisers for The Journey Museum, said Cindy Olson, one of the organizers. She hopes to build on that success with the next two events in the series, on April 13 and May 13.

"It was very well-received, and the restaurants did a terrific job," Olson said.

The first movie was "Imprint," produced by Linn Productions of Rapid City. Members of the Linn family were on hand to show bloopers and deleted scenes and to answer questions about the project.

Four restaurants are participating in Dinner and a Movie: the Wine Cellar Restaurant, Botticelli Ristorante, Firehouse Brewing Co., the Corn Exchange and the Delmonico Grill. Each has a special menu for theatergoers.

The cost, $25, covers a dinner at the restaurant of your choice and entry to the Journey theater for the film. Patrons can buy a ticket at one of the restaurants or at The Journey. It is best, Olson said, to also reserve a time at the restaurant.

Showtime is 8 p.m. Those who arrive at The Journey early will be given a chance to tour the museum. Afterward, patrons will be treated to Eileen's Colossal Cookies.

The next films are:

* April 15: "Smoke Signals," a 1998 film by director Chris Eyre about a cross-country journey by two young Native American men.

* May 13: "Edge of America," a 2003 Eyre-directed film about a black educator who teaches English and coaches girls basketball at the Three Nations Reservation.

Eyre, who lives in the Rapid City area, is scheduled to attend both screenings, introduce the films, talk about the projects and answer questions.

The goal of Dinner and a Movie is to raise money for the museum's educational programs. In addition, organizers hope the events will help raise awareness of The Journey Museum and Rapid City's downtown restaurants.

Olson is also helping to market The Journey's facilities for parties, weddings, conferences and other events.

This is the first series. Organizers plan more "Dinner and a Movie" events beginning in October.
