A Philip High School junior died
early Wednesday morning in a pickup accident, and another junior
faces charges in the crash.
Dalles Craig Brucklacher, 18, of
Philip, died when the pickup he was riding in rolled shortly after
1 a.m. Wednesday.
Zane Donald Fees, 18, also of
Philip, was driving the pickup east on 237th Street west
of Highway 73 in Jackson County.
Fees lost control of the pickup on
the gravel road while rounding a curve, according to the South
Dakota Highway Patrol. The pickup entered the north ditch and
rolled one and a half times, coming to a rest on its top.
Brucklacher was ejected from the
vehicle and trapped under it. He was pronounced dead at the
scene.
Fees was treated at Hans P.
Peterson Memorial Hospital at Philip for minor injuries and
released.
Neither was wearing a seat
belt.
Capt. Randy Hartley of the South
Dakota Highway Patrol said alcohol and speed were factors in the
crash.
Hartley said charges are pending
against Fees, and the accident remains under investigation.
