PIERRE - Groundbreaking for a new Hughes County jail has tentatively been set for Oct. 15, although officials still don't know how much it's going to cost.
They were hoping for $9.1 million, but were told Monday that bids came in at $10.6 million. That means some trimming must take place.
The jail is designed to have 150 beds and include a work-release program and juvenile detention center.
It would be built near the women's prison on the east edge of Pierre.
