NEWCASTLE, Wyo.- Summer is going fast, and I can't believe it's Sturgis time again. The motorcycles are already zipping through town and the motels are filling up quickly. They stay in Newcastle because it is much quieter here but still close to all the action in Sturgis, S.D.
As usual, the Fountain Inn will be opening their Beer Garden next to U.S. Highway 85, and the Flying V, north of Newcastle, will host the Bag Lady Bash on Tuesday, Aug. 7. There will be a barbeque and entertainment throughout the day and on into the evening. I've never been but hear it's quite the party.
Weston County Fair Open Horse Show
I had the opportunity to watch some of the Horse Show on Tuesday, July 31.
Peggy Livingston, superintendent, and Loretta Murphy, assistant superintendent, did a fine job organizing and running the show. There were about 30 participants and everyone seemed to have a very good time.
The results follow; Billy Soderberg, pre-4H All Around; Kaitlyn Livingston, Junior All Around; Courtney Matthew, Senior All Around; Audra Dudzinski, Adult All Around; Caley Buckert, Grand Champion Mare; Audra Dudzinski, Grand Champion Gelding; Leslie Daniels, Grand Champion Junior Horse; and Audra Dudzinski, Grand Champion Senior Horse.
Weston County Farmers Market
The Weston County Farmers Market is being held again this year on the following dates; Aug. 11, 18 and 25, Sept. 3, and on Sept. 8, the Market will travel to Upton for its Fall Festival. The Market's location is the First State Bank Parking Lot and it will run from 9 a.m. until noon.
The Market provides a place for local gardeners to sell their produce as well as an opportunity for local crafters to display their wares. There are a variety of items available such as handmade jewelry, unique bird houses and even the chance to have your portrait drawn by a local artist. I'm planning on checking it bright and early Saturday morning.
