PIERRE - A bill introduced in the Legislature would let drunken drivers use their vehicles to drive to twice-daily alcohol tests at sheriff's offices.

The measure is designed for those who are put into the 24-7 sobriety program instead of jail.

HB1239 would add to the list of places were people in the program may drive. That list currently includes driving to jobs, school and counseling sessions.

The legislation includes an emergency clause that would enact it into law immediately upon being signed by the governor.

Most new laws are effective on July 1 each year.
