Pierre boys win State AA for third consecutive year
The Rapid City Stevens girls won their 13th straight Class AA team track and field title and the Pierre boys captured their third straight at Howard Wood Field on Saturday in Sioux Falls.
The Raider girls only got three individual wins on the weekend from Brooke Garner (discus and shot put) and Hannah Lehmann (triple jump), but used their typical overwhelming depth to win the title with 127 points to second-place Yankton's 97-1/2.
Rapid City Central took third place with 93 points as sophomore sensation Jasmyne King won four gold medals for the second straight season. King won the long jump on Friday, setting a new state record in the process, before breaking Jill Theeler's record in the 200-meter dash on Saturday. She also won the 100- and 400-meter events.
The Pierre boys once again rode their big three of senior Travis Fitzke and juniors Matt Tetzlaff and Jarrett Klinger on the second day to beat Rapid City Central, 104 points to 91-1/2. The Cobblers finished second for the fourth straight season.
