Planned Parenthood attorneys have asked for a federal court injunction to stop the state of South Dakota from imposing sanctions over the requirements in a 2005 law that makes doctors tell women seeking abortions that the procedure ends a human life.
Planned Parenthood, which operates the state's only abortion clinic in Sioux Falls, went to court. A federal judge now must decide if the law is constitutional.
According to court documents, the state Health Department said Planned Parenthood could be sanctioned if it doesn't use a state-approved disclosure form.
But Planned Parenthood argues the law does not require a scripted form and that it can choose the language as long as the disclosures are made.
