DEADWOOD - A Spearfish woman has been arrested and accused of
passing counterfeit travelers checks in several Deadwood
casinos.
The 37-year-old woman, who has not been formally indicted,
told authorities she got the checks in the mail with instructions
to cash them, keep 10 percent and send the rest to an unknown
individual.
A travelers check company has been warning people about such a
scam.
The woman said she cashed the checks but kept all of the money
for herself - reportedly about $5,000.
A grand jury is to decide later this week if indictments
should be issued.
