A rural Milbank woman is dead after her car apparently was swept off the road by flood waters and into a creek.

Grant County Sheriff Mike McKernan says 26-year-old Alba Luz Gamez was reported missing Thursday morning when she didn't show up for work.

Searchers found her vehicle and body Thursday evening in a creek southeast of Milbank. The car was about 200 yards from the road.

The county received up to 6 inches of rain on Wednesday. Officials believe she tried to drive through water that was running across the road.
