The first "twin homes" built by the Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity will be dedicated Tuesday at 630 Nowlin St. and 636 Nowlin St. in Rapid City. The build enables two families to fulfill their dream of home ownership at a property previously occupied by a single family.
The public is invited to a ceremony at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 24.
The families were assisted by volunteers and the Black Hills Association of the United Church of Christ and the United Methodist Churches of Rapid City, including Canyon Lake United Methodist, First United Methodist, Knollwood Heights United Methodist, Rapid Valley United Methodist and South Maple United Methodist.
Church representatives and community partners including the Altrusa Club and the Calvary Lutheran Quilters Guild will attend to help dedicate the new homes.
"It is with great joy that we dedicate these two new homes to very deserving Habitat partner families," Habitat executive director Scott Engmann said. "We could not have provided this service without the incredible leadership of Ward Cheney, and the members of the United Church of Christ and the United Methodist congregations. Countless hours have been invested to help two more families have the opportunity to purchase simple, decent, affordable homes. Our board of directors and staff wish to thank each and every volunteer for their commitment to the Habitat program and to our families."
The Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating poverty housing by bringing together people with resources and people in need to build simple, affordable homes. The homes are sold to those in need at no profit.
