Four men who pleaded guilty to filing false income tax returns for 1999 are scheduled to be sentenced Thursday in federal court in Aberdeen, according to court records.

Kurt Bowers of Pierre pleaded guilty to filing a return that listed his income as $53,000 when the correct amount was almost $240,000.

James Bowers, also of Pierre, acknowledged filing a return listing his income at just over $71,000 when the correct listing should have been more than $210,000.

Jon Bowers of Junction City, Ore., pleaded guilty to listing his income at $33,000 when it was more than $133,000.

And Kent Bowers of Pierre listed his income at $70,000, when it was more than $290,000.

The charges stemmed from a complex scheme to conceal assets and income from the IRS by putting them in management companies and trusts in an effort to reduce the tax liability, prosecutors said.
