Rapid City authorities arrested a man Wednesday after a teenage girl reported the driver of a white van had attempted to lure her into his vehicle.
Gregory Allen Mach, 52, of Rapid City faces misdemeanor charges of enticing away a child and attempted prostitution. The maximum penalty for each crime is one year in jail and a $2,000 fine upon conviction.
According to a Rapid City Police Department news release, law enforcement dispatchers received a call shortly after 8:30 a.m. that a man had tried to lure a teenage girl into his white van in the 300 block of East Boulevard North. The girl fled into a nearby business to ask for help and call her mother.
A surveillance camera at the business captured images of the van on video. Also, the alleged victim provided investigators with a partial license plate number of the suspect vehicle. Through further investigation by the police department and Pennington County Sheriff's Office, a vehicle matching the description, a van owned by Mach, was identified outside his home.
Mach is being held in Pennington County Jail.
