Dusty Swanson, the Hill City High School wrestler paralyzed after suffering a neck injury at a tournament last weekend, continues to recover at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

According to a Web page established by Swanson's family, http://dustyhchs.wikispaces.com, the 15-year-old sophomore has been receiving visitors in the hospital in groups of three and four, but the family asks visitors to call first because he needs his rest.

He is interested in information from this weekend's state wrestling tournaments in Sioux Falls and Aberdeen, the Web page said.

Swanson has been paralyzed from the chest down since suffering a separation of the fifth and sixth cervical vertebrae in a takedown move during a 119-pound semifinal match at the Region 4B tournament in Fort Pierre on Feb. 16.

The family declined an interview request, but according to the Web site, Swanson may be transferred some time this week to Craig Hospital in Englewood, Colo., which specializes in treatment and rehabilitation of patients with spinal injuries.

In the meantime, fundraisers to help cover the family's medical expenses have raised more than $6,000, according to Hill City schools Superintendent Mark Naugle.

The total, separate from a benefit fund established at Hill City's First Western Bank, includes money from Hill City eighth-graders originally earmarked for a class trip.

"They were going to go camping, but they decided to give it to Dusty instead," Naugle said.

Hill City High School Principal Todd Satter said a taco sale Thursday at the high school netted $2,000.

"That's a lot of tacos, and just a lot of good people," Satter said.
