RAPID CITY - More than 460 South Dakota National Guard soldiers may be sent to Iraq in the summer of 2009.
Training notices have been sent to the 1st Battalion, 147th Field Artillery and 147th Forward Support Company "A.
The notices went to the Headquarters Company of Watertown and Sisseton, Battery "A" in Aberdeen, Battery "B" in Salem and Sioux Falls, Battery "C" in Yankton, and the 147th Forward Support Company of Mitchell, Sioux Falls and Webster.
However, Guard officials stress that a training notice is not an official alert or mobilization.
If sent to Iraq, the Army National Guard units would become a security force.
