Not quite two weeks after the big Nov. 5-7 blizzard that buried much of the area, a wildfire burned nearly an acre of private land near the Spearfish airport Tuesday.
Crews from the state, Black Hills National and Spearfish Volunteer Fire Department responded to the 12:50 p.m. fire, keeping it several hundred feet from structures.
The cause of blaze, called the Maverick Fire, is under investigation. However, state wildfire officials said citizens with burn permits should make certain that burn piles are out and cold to the touch.
