WHITEWOOD - Officials say a bridge for those who travel between Whitewood and Sturgis needs either major repairs or should be replaced.
But they emphasize that the bridge on the Whitewood Service Road is not unsafe.
An engineering report recommends a series of repairs that would extend the lifespan of the 1937 bridge. It also recommends a reduction in the weights of trucks that can cross the bridge.
Whitewood officials intend to impose lighter load limits in the future while deciding what to do about the bridge.
It would cost an estimated $1.5 million to replace the span.
