Wyoming and South Dakota officials on Tuesday were attempting to locate a rural Rapid City woman who apparently got lost in returning to the Black Hills from Montana.

Family members say Ann Holst, 72, was last seen when she stopped a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper and asked for directions about 11:30 p.m. Monday. At that point, she had been heading west in the Rozet and Gillette area instead of driving east toward Rapid City.

Holst was following her husband, Bud, on a trip home after buying a motor home in Montana. They pulled in to rest at a Gillette area truck stop; later, he said he thought she seemed mildly confused, perhaps tired, but she said she was fine, daughter-in-law Ann Holst said. He continued the trip, thinking she was following but realized at Moorcroft that she was not. About that time, she contacted the trooper, who was parked along the road after stopping another motorist.

Family members went to Gillette on Tuesday to help look for her. A Wyoming Highway Patrol spokeswoman said Meade County officials had not issued an official missing persons report, but officers were given an "attempt to locate" request.

She is driving a white Honda CRV four-door sport utility vehicle, with South Dakota license plate 49MK47. She is about 5 feet 5 inches tall and has graying short red hair. The couple lives in Meade County on Erickson Ranch Road on the outskirts of Rapid City.

Anyone who has seen Holst or knows of her whereabouts is asked to call the nearest law enforcement agency.
