Fifteen community coalitions across South Dakota have gotten grants totaling almost $300,000 from the state's tobacco control program to combat tobacco use.

State officials say the groups will use the money to support tobacco control activities targeted to specific local needs.

The grants are funded by an increased tobacco tax that voters passed in 2006.

The largest grant, $47,000, goes to a Sioux Falls-based coalition. A Pierre-area group receives $37,000, and one in Rapid City gets $25,000.

The program is administered by the state Department of Human Service's Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
