DEADWOOD - The Corson County case against former state
Representative Ted Klaudt of Walker, who is accused of sex offenses
against two former foster daughters, is being heard in Lawrence
County.
Klaudt faces four counts of second-degree rape, two counts of
sexual exploitation of a minor, one count of sexual contact with a
child younger than 16, two counts of witness tampering and one
count of stalking.
On Friday in Deadwood, Circuit Judge Randall Johnson confirmed
that Klaudt's trial will start Nov. 13.
At the court hearing, lawyers sparred over the nature and
extent of evidence to be presented in the trial. Johnson said he
will rule on most of the motions within two weeks.
Klaudt is to be back in court in Deadwood on Oct. 19.
Klaudt also is charged in Hughes County with four counts of
second-degree rape alleged to have occurred in Pierre when he was
in the Legislature. At least one of the allegations involved a girl
when she was a page during a legislative session.
Klaudt, 49, a farmer and rancher, has pleaded not guilty to
all charges.
