Christmas travelers may have to deal with a marginal amount of snow as they head out for the holidays this weekend.

National Weather Service meteorologist Jeff Johnson said there is a 30 percent to 40 percent chance of snow this evening.

If the snow falls, most of it is expected to fall overnight tonight, during the day Friday and through Friday night, Johnson said.

Saturday and Sunday will both likely be dry.

The snow is expected to fall in all areas of the Black Hills, with the greatest amounts expected in the Northern and Southern Hills. Johnson said he doesn't expected more than "minor accumulations" to occur in any area.

"I don't think we're going to get a lot," he said. "No more than a few inches, I wouldn't think, at the most."

Temperatures will be in the 20s Friday and Saturday but will warm up again Sunday and into Monday, Johnson said. He doesn't expect any freezing rain to fall.

Johnson said there is a possibility that another system could be moving through for Christmas.
