RAPID CITY - Two drug runners caught speeding near Sturgis will spend 10 years in federal prison for having about 28 pounds of methamphetamine and more than 6 pounds of cocaine hidden in their car.
Federal jurors in Rapid City earlier convicted Jese Hernandez-Mendoza and Eddie Martinez of conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, which carry mandatory prison time.
They were arrested Feb. 29 during a traffic stop in a car with Washington plates.
Martinez told the trooper they were headed to Iowa to visit a relative but couldn't say who it was or where the person lived.
According to federal court documents, after a drug dog indicated drugs were in the car, officers searched the vehicle and found the drugs in a false compartment.
