Rapid City has had some crazy weather today.
First the sun shines, then it starts to snow, or sleet. And for a time just before noon, the city experienced thunder snow.
On this date in 1970, a late season snowstorm brought heavy snow to the region with totals of 5.2 inches at the Rapid City Airport, 6.5 inches in Faith, 14 inches in Winner, and 25 inches in Lead, according to the National Weather Service.
For the remainder of today, the NWS says residents can expect isolated to scattered showers along with gusty
northwest winds of 15 to 30 mph.
The winds will blow again on Sunday and temperatures could reach 60 degrees. Because of the temperature and high winds, the grassland fire danger index is expected to range from the high to very high categories with low humidity.
