PIERRE - Gov. Mike Rounds has signed into law a measure that will let 10-year-olds hunt in South Dakota in some cases.
State law until now has set the minimum hunting age at 12, but 11-year-olds can hunt if they will turn 12 later in the fall hunting season. State law also allows people to hunt small game on their own land without a license.
The new law will let those aged 10 though 15 hunt big game and small game without being licensed to hunt if they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. That parent or guardian will have to have a hunting license but cannot carry a gun.
