FLANDREAU - A preliminary investigation into fireworks injuries Wednesday at a tribal casino near Flandreau indicates that a fireworks cylinder tipped over and then shot into the crowd.

Royal River Casino manager Tom Allen said it appears that a fireworks container exploded on the ground and knocked over two other cylinders - one of which shot into the crowd.

Authorities have refused repeated requests for more details, such as how many people were injured and how serious the injuries were.

Allen has said there were injuries and vehicle damage. Initial reports indicated one or two people were hurt.

The 17th annual fireworks show was being put on at the casino by Premier Pyrotechnics.

In a letter to the company, Allen said Premier Pyrotechnics was under contract to provide the fireworks. He asked Premier to do its own investigation into the accident and that the casino will forward its reports on the incident to the company.

"During our 17 years of operation, this is our first adverse incident," Allen wrote.
