PIERRE - State Sen. Bob Gray, R-Pierre, says a proposed code of conduct for South Dakota lawmakers will be ready for consideration by a panel of legislative leaders in November.

Work on the measure comes in the wake of separate allegations in the past year that two lawmakers allegedly molested legislative pages.

The Legislature's Executive Board accepted a subcommittee report last month that contains suggestions for tightened rules on those high school students who run errands for lawmakers during the annual legislative session.

A subcommittee studying a written code of ethics will make its report to the board in November. He said the group is looking at issues including proper conduct, sexual harassment and the use of state property, such as laptop computers.

Gray said he thinks the proposal will get bipartisan support but that the debate will be over the details.
