A night after getting mauled by the Colorado Eagles for three power-play goals in a 4-1 loss, Rapid City’s penalty kill unit held the Eagles scoreless on nine man-advantage chances to boost the Rush to their first victory on the Eagles’ home ice, 3-2, on Saturday night in Windsor, Colo.

Colorado outshot Rapid City, 36-24, for the night and 13-5 in the second period, but the Rush lit the lamp on power plays twice in 35 seconds in the middle frame.

Brendon Hodge scored off assists from Les Reaney and Rich Hansen, and Colt King tallied the first of two goals with feeds from Scott Wray and David Grimson seconds later.

King’s game-winner, with the assist from Blaine Jarvis, came with 7:29 left in the game, but Riley Nelson kept the Eagles close with a goal with 4:59 left.

Miguel Beaudry stood tall in net for Rapid City, stopping 34 of 36 shots. Mike Mole took the loss for Colorado.

The win gives Rapid City two wins in the past three games and evens the season series at 2-2 with their Central Hockey League Northern Conference rival.

Rapid City (7-6-1 overall) travels to Wichita on Wednesday for its next contest.
